About the Team

Akamai’s Enterprise Division is a dynamic new business unit responsible for developing and selling Enterprise Networking, Enterprise Security, and Enterprise Application Access products to enable customer Enterprise IT and Security teams. These solutions provide fast and reliable enterprise apps in customer branches, help mitigate endpoint malware and phishing attempts, and provide safer, easier, and faster application access. Ultimately, our goal is to secure, protect, and accelerate all Enterprise communications as a service in the cloud. The division consists of product management, engineering, sales and technical pre-sales, product marketing, business development, and product support, and works closely with several other groups within Akamai and external partners.

The enterprise IT landscape is turning inside out - applications and data are moving to the cloud, employees are becoming more distributed, and the enterprise’s traditional zone of control is expanding. Security and IT teams must still maintain visibility, security, and reliability. And businesses are looking for a more cost effective method of operation. These are the trends that challenge modern day IT and security teams, while at same time they must drive toward greater agility and simpler infrastructure.

The Enterprise Solutions Engineer (ESE) is a technical sales specialist with a deep understanding of enterprises’ digital business, infrastructure, security, and application access requirements of today’s fast changing IT environments. They employ IT, industry vertical, and technical expertise to address customer business challenges and technical needs, and prescribe solutions from Akamai’s innovative Enterprise Networking, Security, and Access solutions to address customer security needs. The ESE has proven technical pre-sales experience and is proactive and self-directed, responsible for leading technical sales activities with customers, managing the technical relationship and enablement activities with partners, and assuming subject matter expert and enablement responsibilities within Akamai.


  • Work closely with Akamai Enterprise Sales to support existing and prospective customers on how they can incorporate Akamai Enterprise products and services into their architecture and operations to derive business value.

  • Support Enterprise Channel partner recruitment and revenue generation activities, including enabling and educating the partner on combined technical value proposition, and assisting with qualifying opportunities with solution decisions.

  • Educate and enable Akamai cross-divisional direct sales teams on the Enterprise solution portfolio.

  • Lead proof of concept and beta programs with customers and partner teams to ensure technical success and delivery against business objectives. PoCs may require on-site visits and hands-on hardware deployment and software configuration.

  • In partnership with the product and engineering teams, develop the tools and collateral to support the technical teams engaged in selling and fulfillment.

  • Collaborate with the engineering and product management teams to influence product roadmap and the inclusion of business priorities and requirements of early adopter customers.

  • Participate in industry events as a technology evangelist, speaking with prospects and customers, and often presenting the technology.

  • Show high standards of leadership and teamwork – proactively partnering with our partners, within the team, and providing knowledge transfer among peers (case studies, best practices, processes, etc).

  • Travel up to 40%.


Basic Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or 3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or relevant experience and a PhD.

  • 5+ years of experience in a customer facing environment such as sales or technical consulting.

  • 3+ years of experience in technical pre-sales, working directly with customers, channel partners, carrier or system integrators, and business partners.

  • 3+ years of experience with IP networking, switching and routing technologies such as RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, STP,CDP, L2 transparent bridging, VLANs, MPLS.

  • 2+ years of experience of internet and network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS) and tools.

Desired Qualifications

  • Industry recognized certifications such as CCSP, CCDA, CCNA, CCNP.

  • Experience with routers, network appliances, and WAN Optimization devices.

  • Experience in the web application security field.

  • Experience with on-site IDS/IPS or Firewalls or Web Application Firewalls.

  • Strong background in Layer 7 technologies and protocols, such as HTTP, DNS, SSL, Web & App Servers, Load Balancers, Content/Application Delivery Network (CDN), HTTP Streaming, Mobile Site/Application Acceleration, Three Tier Architectures.

  • Experience within the Carrier and/or Service Provider landscape.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills appropriate to both technical and management clients.

  • Experience developing and enhancing strong client relationships.

  • A proven track record demonstrating good business judgment, an ability to make decisions, and a passion for excellence.

  • Excellent English language skills.
