The person hired for the position of Quality Engineer will be responsible for quality programs of major importance to the corporation’s initiative in the Automotive Industry. They will support EMSD’s global products for the Automotive markets by leading design for quality initiatives in partnership with commercialization and manufacturing teams, insuring compliance to ISO and Automotive Industry expectations, and supporting raw material, supplier evaluations and product complaint analyses.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supports the commercialization of new products for the Korean and Global automotive markets by partnering with local and global design teams (laboratory, business, manufacturing and supply chain) to ensure design for quality, in accordance with IATF16949 (International Automotive Task Force) and ISO 9001:2015 standards.

  • Leads and executes product design reviews, FMEA, test method development, raw material specifications and supplier management in support of new and existing products.

  • Functions as an effective team leader and collaborator, embracing diversity and multi-cultural global collaboration, and promotes harmonious and efficient working relationships across all functions.

  • Supports ISO 9001:2015, IATF16949 and customer specific requirements, and insures an appropriate level of compliance across laboratory and manufacturing, including outsourced manufacturers.

  • Leads, trains, counsels, and guides laboratory, engineers, business, managers and directors in ISO and IATF and customer specific requirements for automotive products.

  • Active member of the EMSD global quality team and participates in regular meetings. Creates and maintains an extensive global network of resources (quality, laboratory, manufacturing, engineering, sales and marketing) to facilitate completion of assignments and to share best practices.

  • Independently performs project planning and project execution. Establishes project objectives and priorities.

  • Serves as part of global internal audit team for insuring compliance to IATF16949 and VM6.1 standards in laboratory and manufacturing sites.

  • Develops a portfolio of tangible and documented contributions to the local and global team through technical reports, publications and presentations.

  • Identifies, plans, recommends, and completes quality programs involving innovative applications and extensions of existing and new technologies of major importance to division business.

  • Identifies product quality improvement opportunities and is efficient in evaluating hopper ideas, making project proposals, collaborating and executing priority programs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electronics, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or related discipline from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of Quality Engineering experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

  • Experience working on a cross-functional team.

  • Strong English language skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Engineering

  • Experience in new product commercialization, including stage gate reviews and development of House of Quality (HOQ) critical quality characteristics

  • Experience in Automotive Battery for power train manufacturing

  • Experience with partnering with in-house and outsourced manufacturing

  • Experience in the Automotive Industry in a private, public, government or military environment.

  • Experience with Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Core Tools such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)

  • Experience with ISO 9001:2015, IATF16949, with understanding of ISO17025 (Laboratory Accreditation)

  • Experience as an ISO auditor and supplier management

  • Certifications in quality engineering, quality auditing or quality management from American Society for Quality-ASQ certification(s): Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP)

  • Black Belt or Green Belt experience

  • Communication, writing, influencing, and conflict resolution skills

  • Statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, etc.) and Microsoft Office proficient

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international
